Say no to cold wet tents - Festival camping

Gemma at Bumble

As I packed away my soggy wet tent, I vowed that next time I venture to a festival it will be in a campervan.

For over a decade I have tried and tested many a tent at a festival; large ones, small ones, pop up ones, green ones, yellow ones and each year I’ve added an extra layer of luxury such as a lamp, roll mat and airbed.  Next year I’ll be taking a double bed with cosy duvet, a fridge for cider, power point to charge my phone and even the kitchen sink!
And do you know the best bit? I can just drive straight onto the camping pitch and crack open that first can of cold cider. I’ll sit back on my camping chair and remember the years of having to pack it all into my stupidly oversized backpack, stuffed so heavy with booze and waterproofs that I can barely lift it, let alone carry it for the next hour across a muddy field to a tiny square of grass (mud) to pitch up.

Perhaps I’ll get a better night sleep too.  I love partying to the small hours and I would love to have the energy to go all weekend but the truth is that I love and need my sleep. Wouldn’t it be great, just for once not to have to wear all my clothes at night just to keep warm enough to get to sleep in my tent?  Also, in the morning there wouldn’t be that panic wake up moment at 7am when the rising sun has heated the tent to a blistering inferno and I have to rid those artic layers.

At the end of the festival, there will no longer be the dread of the return journey. Every year I have a last minute binge on the remaining food and drink and part with much loved clothes to make my bag that little bit lighter for the walk back to the car. Which car park are we in again?!

I’ll never stop going to festivals but I’ve realised it doesn’t need to be so hard.  Yes, there will still be mud and yes, I’ll still have to brave the portaloos but that is all part of a festival.  What I can do though is make my little home for the weekend a little warmer, dryer and comfier.

I’ll see you next year in the campervan field. I’ll be in a bright yellow Bumble Camper. I hope you’ll join me.
